Is all I could think when I heard 20 people got let go at one of my companies subsidiaries yesterday. It is because

Just great. I work in production, so I might be alright. I just really don’t want to get laid off again. Good news is that I’ve got two interviews on Friday in Greenville SC, and a place in Colorado that does frac consulting might also be interested. I just really don’t want to spend 347 days unemployed again, I don’t know if I’m able to deal with that again right now.

I’m sure the executive responsible for that decision is suitably upset. Crying into the large bonus he’ll receive when earnings per share rise.

Who would win?

An enormous worldwide industry that pulls value straight out of the ground?

Some shiny , spinny bois

So they just hired a guy to replace the president of this site, and it sounds like this guy is about to shake shit up.

I follow the industry pretty closely as a risk analyst and the upstream/E&P people have been pretty safe since things started improving a couple years ago. But I haven’t heard any good news out of the fracking or offshore world (at current price levels).

Midstream still appears to be the safest, all things considered. The pay may not be there, but the job security should be better...

I thought I was safe after I made it into 2016, and then my company had a bad quarter and I got cut.

Fracking seems to be back, how long that’ll last who knows. Probably going to fuck it up like they did back in 2014.

Damn, that sucks. Keep moving on that job search, and good luck Friday in Greenville - hope you ace both of those!

Thanks, I’m hoping both go well. I feel like the writing is on the wall and I should get out.

Yeah, I think you’re right - but you still have time to make sure that your next job is a good one.

Did you hear anything on whether they’re giving decent packages or not? Hopefully so - that cushion helps.

This will be different. You have prospects.

Don’t even know who all got cut, so no idea about packages. I know it won’t be as good as what I got from my last company, should the worst happen.

You are the man! Well, I mean, I’m the man, so you’re the other man, but you’re good to go!

What line of work are you in now? We have a production plant just outside of Greenville.
